Waterford Crystal Tara Candelabra Single Specifications The ornate 10-inch Waterford Crystal Tara candelabra is a unique design, not part of a collection. Waterford may have been making renowned crystal pieces for more than 200 years, but its designers looked back into the even more distant past for inspiration--this candelabra suggests the mythic opulence of Tara, the ancient capital of Irish kings. It makes a fitting centerpiece for a regally formal table. The stem of the candelabra resembles a stately pillar; its center section is detailed with six diamond-cut panels which are bordered, top and bottom, with parallel fluting. Perched atop the pillar rests a cup-shaped hanger plate; its scalloped edges and fanned-out diamond cuts give it a flowerlike appearance. (A clear plastic washer is included to prevent chipping from friction between plate and candlestick.) Eight drop-and-button hanging prisms hang from the plate. The taper socket is carved with wedge cuts resembling flames, and a twelve-pointed star is cut into the hexagonal base; the star is seen refracted from above and adds to the prismatic interplay with the candle flame. To preserve its clarity, do not wash candelabra in the dishwasher; harsh detergent and excessive heat could permanently etch surface of glass. Wash with a mild liquid soap in warm (not hot) water. Rinse with warm water and polish with a lint-free cloth. Edges and rims are delicate; do not store upside down or place upside down on a draining board. Crystal can focus sunlight into a concentrated beam that could potentially scorch rugs or furniture, so do not store or display in direct sunlight. Do not allow candle to burn down to within one inch of candelabra; the heat could damage the crystal. The candelabra is 10 inches tall with a 3-1/2-inch base; it takes standard 7/8-inch taper candles. Assembly instructions for the hanging prisms are included. --Garland Withers
